En guise de célébration pour le premier anniversaire de Pokémon Écarlate et Violet, les jeux étant sortis sur Nintendo Switch le 18 novembre 2022, The Pokémon Company a fait appel à Ayano Takeda, autrice de la série de romans Sound! Euphonium (qui a été adaptée en anime par Kyoto Animation, en plus d’avoir donné suite à deux films, Liz et l’Oiseau bleu et Sound! Euphonium : The Movie – Our Promise : A Brand New Day), pour l’écriture d’After the Rain With You (Kimi to Ameagari o, ou Kimiame). Il s’agit d’un court roman qui se concentre sur la relation entre Menzi et la protagoniste de Pokémon Écarlate et Violet, ici appelée Anna. L’histoire débute comme dans les jeux, où Menzi affronte l’héroïne au cours d’un combat, puis lui montre le chemin vers l’Académie Orange (le roman se base donc plus particulièrement sur Écarlate). Dans le roman, Menzi est présentée comme la présidente du conseil des élèves de l’Académie, tandis qu’Anna vient d’emménager à Paldea après avoir vécu à Galar. Elle devient alors la voisine, puis l’amie et la rivale de Menzi. Cette dernière voit quelque chose briller au fond des yeux d’Anna, et c’est ainsi que les deux jeunes filles vont tisser des liens profonds. After the Rain With You dépeint l’histoire de la « Chasse au Trésor » des deux héroïnes d’un point de vue unique qui ne figure pas dans les jeux. Le roman, disponible uniquement en japonais, peut être lu gratuitement sur son site officiel à cette adresse. À noter que pour tout achat de 6 000 yens ou plus dans les boutiques Pokémon Center au Japon ou sur Pokémon Center Online depuis le 18 novembre 2023, une version physique d’After the Rain With You est offerte.

Une chanson de YOASOBI reliée directement au roman

After the Rain With You a été publié précisément le 10 novembre 2023. Huit jours plus tard, le 18 novembre, une chanson reliée directement au roman a été publiée. Produite et interprétée en japonais et en anglais par YOASOBI (chant : ikura, musique : Ayase), elle se nomme Biri-Biri et est disponible en streaming et en téléchargement sur les plateformes listées à cette adresse. Il y a même un clip vidéo, produit et animé par le studio ENISHIYA, qui se base lui aussi sur le roman d’Ayano Takeda et donc sur Écarlate et Violet. En plus du succès immense de YOASOBI à travers le monde depuis le début de ses activités en 2019, le choix de The Pokémon Company d’avoir fait appel spécifiquement à ce duo est également justifié par le fait qu’il se présente par le slogan « roman en musique ». On peut aussi souligner le fait qu’Ayase est un producteur Vocaloid, faisant écho à Pokémon feat. Hatsune Miku Project VOLTAGE.

Après ses débuts en 2019, YOASOBI s’est encore fait plus remarquer en produisant des chansons utilisées dans des génériques d’anime, à commencer par l’opening de la saison 2 de Beastars. Il y a ensuite eu l’opening de Mobile Suit Gundam : The Witch from Mercury, puis ceux d’Oshi no Ko et Frieren : Beyond Journey’s End. Quant à Ayase, en plus de ses productions Vocaloid, il a aussi composé des chansons pour The Caligula Effect 2 en 2021.
